São Paulo – The Brazilian visual artist Ivana Panizzi will present her new artworks in an exhibition in Jordan. The show takes place at Instituto Cervantes in Amman from October 19 to November 20. It’s the artist’s second exhibition in the country and these paintings were done solely for this event.
“They are abstract paintings with the colors from around here. I use sand, earth, brown tones. I’m working with these colors a lot. When I looked at the paintings, I saw the geography, the nature of Jordan”, says Panizzi, who also is Brazil’s ambassadress in the Middle East country. The exhibition will feature 12 paintings and a large installation made of bottles and other recyclable materials.
Panizzi graduated first in Sociology but when she moved to Cuba, twenty years ago, she decided to pursue a master’s degree in Visual Arts, turning the paintings and installations into her new profession. Jordan has been her home since the second half of last year.
Her work with recyclable materials drew the attention of Instituto Cervantes, a non-profit organization created by the Spanish government, and she received the invitation to hold the exhibition that starts this week. She was also invited to have another show, this time at Gallery 14, in November, also in the Jordanian capital. In the November exhibition she will present a selection of pictures she took in Africa.
