Rio de Janeiro – Transpetro, the logistics branch of Brazilian oil company Petrobras, has inaugurated the ship José Alencar, the sixth vessel to be added to the fleet in two years, finalizing the first set of orders from Brazilian shipyards. During the José Alencar inaugural voyage ceremony, this Tuesday (14), Transpetro president, Sergio Machado, authorized the construction of another eight ships at the Estaleiro Mauá shipyard, in the city of Niterói, near Rio de Janeiro.
“The Brazilian naval industry is living a new moment. It is no longer just a dream, it is now consolidated. The great issues now are management, quality, so that productivity is greater and better, in search of international competitiveness. That is what we are working for,” said Sérgio Machado.
In it’s first journey, José Alencar left the Estaleiro Mauá to be loaded with naphtha at the Ilha D’Água Terminal, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. From there it follows towards São Paulo. Greatest logistics company in Latin America, the Petrobras branch operates a fleet of 60 ships, 48 sea and land terminals and over 14,500 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines.
