Brasília – Poultry exports grew this year, from January through September. 1.432 million tons were exported, representing an increase of 25.70% and generating receipts of US$ 1.6 billion. The forecast for this year is for US$ 2 billion, as against US$ 1.3 billion last year.
Despite the increase, there was a drop in exports to Russia, one of the biggest importers of Brazilian poultry, due to a quota system established by that country. In 2002, between January and September, 201 thousand tons were exported to Russia alone. This year, during the same period, only 151 thousand tons were exported, a 24.5% drop in comparison with the previous year.
