São Paulo – Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent today (19) a message to his Algerian counterpart, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to show his satisfaction with the improvement in his health condition. Bouteflika was discharged on Saturday from the hospital Val de Grâce, in Paris, where he went suffering from a gastric haemorrhage. According to information from the Algérie Presse Service (APS), an ulcer was discovered and he had to be operated.
"It came to my knowledge, with satisfaction and relief, of the good news relating to his discharge from hospital and the signals of progressive complete health recovery," said the message from Lula disclosed by the Itamaraty, the Brazilian foreign office. "I was very moved by the manifestations of happiness and trust by the Algerian people with the news," added the Brazilian president.
According to Lula, such manifestations are an "eloquent testimonial of the affection of the Algerian people," for his president, "as for the acknowledgement of the achievements of his government". Lula also said he hopes to be able to greet his counterpart personally soon in Algiers, capital city of the Arab country. "In a way to express the friendship myself and the Brazilians hold for your excellency and your people," said the Brazilian president.
Bouteflika was the co-president in the summit for South American and Arab countries, which took place in May in Brasilia, and was in Brazil in the occasion.
