São Paulo – In a visit to the government of the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, today (12) the chairman of the meat packing plant Friboi, José Batista Júnior, showed to be interested in opening a slaughterhouse in the state. Since the beginning of 2003 were inaugurated in the state the following slaughterhouses: Frigorífico Mercosul, in the city of Alegrete, Frigorífico Alibem, in Santa Rosa, Frigorífico Centro Sul, in Dom Pedrito, and Frigorífico Mercosul, in Capão do Leão.
Friboi is interested in building a plant, most probably in the city of São Borja, with the capacity for slaughtering 1,200 animals per day. The investment will be of about US$ 60 million and is likely to generate about 1,000 direct jobs. The information is from the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
