São Paulo – Brazilian table tennis player Hugo Calderano clinched the trophy at WTT Contender Doha in Qatar, a week after lifting the trophy at WTT Contender Durban in South Africa, thus reclaiming the fifth position in the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world ranking.
The title in Doha is the fourth in Calderano’s career — the first two being the WTT Star Contender Doha (2021) and Tunes in Tunisia in 2022.
To get to the final day of play at WTT Contender Doha 2023, Calderato won against four adversaries. He beat Porto Rico’s Angel Naranjo (191st) 3-0, Austria’s Robert Gardo (44th) 3-2, and China’s Yaun Licen (18th) and Xiang Peng (36th) – both 3-2.
On the final day, he beat South Korea’s Jang Woojin (18th) 4-1 (12-10, 11-13, 11-3, 14-12, 11-7).
