São Paulo – A Brazilian army officer should manage the largest peace force of the United Nations (UN), in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, according to a press statement disclosed by the Ministry of Defence. The head will be Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, aged 60, who had retired late last year and will return to his activities. He was the "Force Commander" of the UN delegation in Haiti and should command almost 20,000 soldiers from 20 countries in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is living a civil war.
