São Paulo – Brazilian vehicle exports were the main support for the sector’s production in August, rising 49.3% compared to the same month last year, data from automakers association Anfavea showed on Tuesday (9). Exports are also up year to date through August, with an increase of 55.9%.
According to Anfavea, August’s export performance was the best since June 2018. Last month, Brazil exported 57,089 vehicles. From January to August, exports totaled 378,249 units. “The growth of our production in recent months is due to a greater presence of our members in the international market,” said Anfavea president Igor Calvet. The data include passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses, with the first two accounting for the majority.
The association reports that Argentina was largely responsible for the export performance, accounting for 59% of purchases this year, with 224,234 units acquired. In the same period of 2024, the South American neighbor had accounted for 36% of Brazilian car exports. The second-largest market was Mexico, with 49,598 units, followed by Colombia with 32,316, then Uruguay with 22,277, and Chile in fifth place, with 18,814 vehicles purchased.
Brazil produced 247,032 vehicles in August, a decrease of 4.8% compared to the same month in 2024. For the year, 1.7 million units were manufactured, an increase of 6%. According to Anfavea, there has been a rise in sales of imported vehicles in the domestic market. In August, China was the main source of imports for the first time in history, surpassing Argentina, which had been the leading supplier since the early 1990s.
