Brasília – A survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) released this Wednesday (26th) shows that the level of pessimism of Brazilians concerning the economy went down. The fall is related to an improvement of the estimations about the prices’ behavior.
The National Index of Consumer Expectation (Inec) increased 1% in August over July. The index reached 98.9 points. It was the second straight time that the index went up.
The poll shows that, even with two straight increases, the Inec is 10.2% below the historical average, which stands at 110.1 points, and 8.7% below the level registered in August of last year. This means that the population remains pessimistic.
In August, the expectation index over the inflation increased 4.2% over July. According to the survey’s methodology, the index’s raise shows that increased the number of people that is expecting a decline of the inflation rate.
“Despite the index’s improvement, the mistrust over the evolution of the inflation rate in the next six months remains, since the index still stands 11% below the historical average”, says the CNI.
Expectations over the unemployment rate, personal income and indebtedness remained practically stable in comparison to July and still stand below the ones registered last year. But consumers are more willing to spend. The expectation index over bigger purchases increased 1.2% over July.
