São Paulo – The fifth edition of the Image Festival Amman, in Jordan, includes three exhibitions with works of Brazilians photographers. The largest one opens this Tuesday (5) with images of 12 photographers from Brazil.
This exhibition takes place at Foresight32 Art Gallery and includes images from Adriana Queiroz, Anderson Coimbra, Gabriela de Barros, Giancarlo Ceccon, Gustavo Taouil, Isabel Gonçalez, Luiz Maudonnet, Malu Mesquita, Paola Geoffroy, Rodrigo Marrano, Tiago Dotta and Vanessa Dutra. Renato Negrão, photographer and professor at Escola Panamericana de Artes, is the curator.
The Brazilian exhibition is titled “Communication between photographers: the future of the image”. “The festival’s theme is ‘future’ so I picked works under topics similar to it. To me, the connection between photographers is the future of photography. The fact that they’re bonding and showing their works together is a way of promoting [their images]”, says Negrão.
The 86 images made by the Brazilians portray diverse topics such as urban landscapes, inland towns and images taken using water or glass reflections, among others. It’s the first time that Brazil takes part in the Jordanian festival. According to Negrão, the Brazilian embassy in the Arab country is offering significant support in promoting the Brazilian artists.
On Wednesday (6), photographers Guilherme Luzzim, Isa Godoy, Lais Podestá and Ricardo Abreu will have their works on display in the exhibition Outdoors, which will be held outdoors in an area near downtown Amman. In all, 32 images will be visible through several streets of the Jordanian capital.
On April 23, the exhibition In vitro, by visual artist and ambassadress of Brazil in Jordan Ivana Panizzi, will open. The event will be held at Zaha Gallery. “I have made two large installations with bottles and one with an aquarium”, she explains.
Each bottle installation has around 500 to 600 pieces. Inside them, images of people that gain different perspectives according to the light reflection. “There are pictures from people from all around the world”, says Panizzi. “The installation grabs the attention due to the transparency. Throughout the day it changes with the light”, she explains.
The drought is also a topic of Panizzi’s exhibition. “There are photos that I took in the Namibia desert, where you experience, first hand, the water shortage”, says the ambassadress, recalling the animal carcasses that she saw in the African country. According to her, the water shortage is an important topic in Jordan, since the Arab country also suffers with the scarcity of the resource.
The Brazilian exhibitions in the festival have free entry and can be seen until April 30.
