Brasília – Brazilian spending abroad in August totaled US$ 1.263 billion, a 46.26% decline over the same month of 2014 (US$ 2.350 billion), according to data from the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) released this Tuesday (22nd). In the first eight months of the year, these expenses totaled US$ 12.879 billion, a 25.13% decline in comparison to the same period of last year (US$ 17.201 billion).
The head of the Economic Department at the BC, Tulio Maciel, points out that the dollar appreciation impacts spending in international travelling quickly – and strongly. Maciel also cited the income decline caused by drop in economic activity. “Overall, I believe that Brazilians will travel less abroad due to airplane tickets and expenses in general being more expensive”, he said.
