Brasília – Brazilians’ spending in international trips declined 16% in the first four months of this year over the same period of 2014. From January to April of last year, this expenditure reached US$ 8.187 billion. In 2015, in the same time period, it stood at US$ 6.876 billion. Taking into account only April, there was also a decline. Brazilian spending abroad last month stood at US$ 1.644 billion while in April 2014 it stood at US$ 2.34 billion, which means a 29.7% decline.
The data was released this Tuesday (26th) by the Brazilian Central Bank (BC). The drop in Brazilian spending abroad is due to an appreciated dollar, which turns air tickets and hotel rates, set in foreign currency, more expensive. Analysts from the financial market estimate that the dollar will stand at R$ 3.20 at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, foreigners spent US$ 444 million in Brazil in April 2015 and US$ 2.081 billion in the first four months of the year. This means a decline of 18.38% over the US$ 544 million of April of last year, and of 8.2% over the US$ 2.267 billion recorded in the first four months of 2014.
