Brasília – The dollar hike made Brazilians’ spending abroad drop in August. Last month, spending reached USD 1.309 billion, down 5.24% from a year ago, the Central Bank of Brazil (BC) reported this Monday (23).
Year-to-date, Brazilians’ spending abroad were also lower. Spending reached USD 12.014 billion, down 5.3% year-on-year.
Spending by foreign visitors to Brazil also decreased to USD 464 million last month and USD 4.138 billion year-to-date, down 3.84% and 0.04% respectively compared to last year. Therefore, international travel deficit resulting from inbound and outbound traveler spending stood at USD 846 million in August and USD 7.876 billion year-to-date.
