Brasília – Spending by Brazilians abroad totaled USD 1.246 billion in January this year, informed the Brazilian Central Bank (BC) this Friday (24). The result is 80.5% higher than recorded in the same month last year when Brazilians spent USD 690 million abroad.
Spending by foreigners in Brazil totaled USD 604 million in the month, up 43.3% compared to January 2022. According to the BC, both spending by Brazilians abroad and revenues from foreigners in Brazil are on a “comeback to pre-pandemic levels.”
With the increase in expenses abroad, the negative balance of Brazil’s international travel spending rose from USD 269 million, in January 2022, to USD 642 million last month. The deficit occurs when the expenses of Brazilians abroad are more significant than spending by foreigners in Brazilian territory.
