São Paulo – The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) was elected on March 8th to chair the United Nations Statistical Commission for a two-year term, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry reported this Thursday (10th).
This is the first time Brazil occupies the position. The country will be represented by the IBGE president Wasmália Bivar. The Commission comprises 24 member countries and will be tasked with approving an indicator framework for monitoring the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and its 169 targets.
