São Paulo – In May, the Manaus Industrial Sector, in Amazon state, produced 96,607 motorcycles, an increase of 24.3% over the same month of last year, according to information released this Monday (11) by the Brazilian Association of Motorcycle, Moped and Bicycle Manufacturers (ABRACICLO). The Amazon state capital concentrates almost all of the motorcycle production in Brazil.
From January to May, 444,566 motorcycles were manufactured, up 19% over 2017’s first five months. According to ABRACICLO’s president, Marcos Fermanian, the data shows the consolidation of the sector’s recovery.
“What we saw the most in this period was the continuous upward trend of business in the domestic market and everything points to forecasts being revised up,” he said in a statement. In the beginning of 2018, the association was expecting a growth of 5.9% in the annual output.
Exports also went up. In May, 5,945 motorcycles were shipped, a surge of 37.2% in comparison to the same month of 2017. From January to May, 37,852 units were exported, up 53.3% over the same period of last year. Argentina, Colombia, United States, Australia and Canada are the main markets.
