São Paulo – Bunge has signed a protocol of intentions to open one more factory in the city of Gaspar, in the state of Santa Catarina. The unit should produce mayonnaise and will receive investment of 32.4 million Brazilian reals (US$ 19 million), with forecasts for production of 42,000 tonnes a year.
According to information disclosed by a spokesperson for the company, the estimate is for the factory to be in operation by December 2011. The unit will be alongside the factory the company already has in the city, which produces margarine and oils.
Bunge Brazil operates in agribusiness, food and bioenergy. The company had consolidated revenues of 27.4 billion Brazilian reals (US$ 16.1 billion) in 2009. In the area of foods, the company has seven vegetable oil refineries in Brazil, three units for production of margarine and one for mayonnaise. The second will be in Gaspar.
Bunge has been in Brazil since 1905 and is one of the main exporters in the country. It has over 17,000 employees and hundreds of units, including industries, distribution centres, silos and port installations in Brazil.
