São Paulo – From April 21st to 23rd, the capital of Egypt, Cairo, will hold the seventh edition of the glass industry fair, Glass World. According to information from the Trade Office of the Arab country in São Paulo, this is the main fair of the sector in the Middle East and Africa. The event also attends the aluminum sector.
Countries from the Middle East and North Africa are important glass and aluminum producers. Concerning glass, there’s a great availability of raw material: sand. Besides, the two industries use power in an intense way, which is readily available in the region in the form of natural gas.
Besides the manufacturers, the fair intends to gather machinery, equipment and technology suppliers. Until now, according to information from the fair’s website, 105 exhibitors are expected to attend, from 17 countries of Africa, Middle East, Asia and North America. The majority of the companies, however, are based in Egypt.
Sales to Brazil
Brazil imports glass from Egypt. In the first two months of this year, the Arab country sold the amount of US$ 104,000 of glass to the Brazilian market, more than double of the amount registered in the same period of 2014, according to data from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC).
Last year, sales of glass from Egypt to Brazil stood at US$ 872,400, an increase of 1.6% over 2013.
Concerning aluminum, Brazil imported US$ 116,400 from Egypt in 2014, over US$ 1.456 million in 2013, a decline of 92%. In the first two months of 2015, imports stood at only US$ 1,773, over US$ 35,700 in the same period of last year, a drop of 95%.
