Brasília – The 2012-2013 sugarcane crop in Brazil is expected to increase by 5.4%, to reach 602.18 million tonnes, according to a survey conducted by the National Supply Company (Conab). In the preceding crop, 571.44 million tonnes were harvested.
According to the survey, average yield should increase by 2.9% and the planted area should rise from 8.368 million to 8.567 million hectares as against the last crop.
Sugar production should grow by approximately 5.34%, from 36.88 million tonnes to 38.85 million tonnes. Ethanol production is expected to increase by 4.81% compared with the 22.86 billion litres made from the preceding crop. The output is expected to reach 23.96 billion litres.
Production of anhydrous ethanol, which is made to be mixed with gasoline, should increase by 7.44% and production of hydrated ethanol, for bifuel vehicles, should rise by 3.07%.
