Brasília – The Brazilian Ministry of Environment has published on the Federal Official Gazette this Monday (23rd) a partial list of enterprises that have donated carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the FIFA World Cup. Considering emissions stemming from construction works, travels, energy consumption and other actions stemming to the tournament, the ministry has decided to summon companies with Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) to donate them.
In practice, the credits, awarded to companies whose clean development mechanisms have been approved by the United Nations (UN), will be cancelled so they cannot be used in the future. In retribution, the companies will earn the right to use the Sustainability – Low Carbon Label issued by the Ministry of Environment. Their names will also be publicized in management and results reports, and on the Official Gazette, as was the case today.
