São Paulo – The National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (Anfavea) has reassessed industry figures and revised up its forecasts for this year. Output is expected to be 3.79 million units, up 11.9% from 2012, and sales are expected to be up 1% to 2%, ranging from 3.84 million to 3.88 million units.
The Anfavea chairman, Luiz Moan Yabiku Junior, said the revised industry figures and optimistic output prospects are due to increased exports and replacement of imported vehicles by domestic-made ones. “Our projections are based on market knowledge and on the fact that we are aware of our sales expectancies, and to the ascertainment that insolvency is on the way down for the first time in the past few months, and should be lower than 6%.”
According to figures issued this Thursday (5th) by the Anfavea, vehicle production was up 9% in August from July, at 340,469 units. August-on-August, production was up 2.3%. Year-to-date through August, output was up 13.7% from the same period in 2012, at 2,509,574 vehicles.
Licensing of new vehicles was down 3.8% in August from July, with 329,143 units sold. August-on-August, licensing was down 21.6%. Year-to-date in 2013, licensing was down 1.2%, at 2,470,513 vehicles licensed.
Exports were up 22.1% in August from July to 64,071 vehicles. August-on-August, exports were up 49.9%. Year-to-date through August, exports were up 28.4% to 382,681 units. Value-wise, exports were up 11.2% in August from July, and up 21.65% August-on-August. Year-to-date, exports were up 11.4%.
Regarding employment, 154,533 people were hired by the industry in August, up 0.4% from July. August-on-August, employment was up 4.6%.
