São Paulo – The Carnival Holiday parades and attractions should bring 30,000 tourists to the city of São Paulo. The City Hall is expecting 20% of these visitors – 6,000 – to be foreigners. The event should generate an increase of 54 million Brazilian reals (US$ 32 million) in revenues. In 2010, the celebration brought 51 million reals (US$ 30.7 million) into the city, 13.3% more than in 2009.
The Anhembi Sambadrome is expected to receive 120,000 people, at an average of 30,000 per day. The City Hall invested 27.8 million reals (US$ 16.7 million) in the party, including support to the samba schools and to the infrastructure of the event, which kicks off tomorrow (4th).
On the days of the Grupo Especial parades (top tier samba schools), Friday (4th) and Saturday (5th), attendance may reach 50,000 people, including the members of the schools. The Grupo de Acesso schools (second tier) will parade on Sunday (6th), and the schools in the União das Escolas de Samba Paulistanas (Union of the Samba Schools of São Paulo – Uesp) will feature on Monday (7th).
