São Paulo – Revenue from tourism in Brazil is expected to reach BRL 5.8 billion (USD 1.9 billion) during the Carnival holiday, according to the National Federation for Trade in Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). Food, transportation and lodging should account for 85% of total earnings. Bars and restaurants could see BRL 3.31 billion (USD 1.08 billion). The numbers were made public this Thursday (23) in the federal government’s Portal Brasil.
“Food answers to a relevant share of consumer spending in any major tourism event,” the portal quoted CNC’s Business Council for Tourism and Hospitality president Alexandre Sampaio as saying.
Expected revenue is BRL 977.9 million (USD 319 million) for road transportation; BRL 652.5 million (USD 212.9 million) for the hospitality industry; and the remainder will accrue to other tourism-related activities, like culture, leisure, air travel, etc.
