Businessman Mohamad Orra Mourad took over as secretary-general of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce earlier this month. A descendant from Palestinians and Lebanese, he comes from the real estate sector to run the institution’s projects at an executive level.

The Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce paid the fee for companies from Rio Grande do Sul that were registered to participate in the B2B meetings with importers from Muslim-majority countries before the climate tragedy the state went through. The goal was to create business opportunities and help reinvigorate the economy.

Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, and Goiás are major exporters of halal foods. At an event with buyers from Muslim-majority countries, state and industry association representatives say they plan on boosting trade with Muslims and mention a business mission.
