Producers and vendors of eyewear have created a seal of origin and safety to fight against forgery and invest in the quality of domestic produce. Another initiative to increase foreign trade is the creation of an eyeglass frame export consortium in 2005. Brand De Lauretis from the southeaster state of São Paulo has developed frames for glasses out of solid gold to be presented on the Arab market.

Angela Martins, director of ABC Brazil Bank, wrote a book on Islamic banking practices, geared by the Koran, and which take into account ethics and social responsibility. There is no interest, but profits are welcome. As these practices are growing, Angela believes Brazilians interested in doing business with Arabs should learn more about the system, which could result in business and investments.
The factory from the southeastern state of São Paulo sent around 50 mannequins to international brand stores in both Arab countries last year. The company intention, however, is to increase trade relations with the nations in the region and find a representative on the local market. The company already exports to over 20 destinations.
For 15 years the French group has been exporting orange juice produced in their Brazilian unit to the Arab Countries. The multinational company, which has been in Brazil for 50 years, counts on an exclusive representative in Dubai. For exporters, after China and Russia, the Arabs are considered the most important alternative market for the product.
The multi-sector event to take place in the Syrian capital will include a stand promoted by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and by the Brazilian Foreign Office. Part of the stand will be occupied by Santo André city hall, which has reserved space for companies in varied areas, including technological incubators, auto parts makers, and plastic industries.
The company wants to increase its sales on the international market, and will seek clients in the Arab countries. Círculo manufactures threads for embroidery, knitting, and crochet. Its revenues last year were US$ 22.6 million, US$ 2.5 million of which were attributed to exports.
Phoebus, a member of software export consortium PBTech, started negotiations with businessmen from both countries in April this year. The Arabs are interested in solutions for bank correspondent networks developed by the company. The forecast is that the deal should be made by the end of 2004, and should generate US$ 160,000 in one year.
By the end of 2004, the entity will participate in two international fairs, in Syria and the United Arab Emirates, as well as two national fairs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Companies interested should contact the CCAB marketing department.
It is expected that the International Footwear, Fashion Accessories, Machines and Components Tradeshow (Francal) should be visited by around 2,000 importers from over 100 countries. Buyers should also come from Arab countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Kuwait. Last year, 2.5 million pairs of shoes produced in Brazil were exported to the region, of which 1.2 million went to the Emirates. The event should receive over 48,000 Brazilian visitors and include 850 exhibit
The Tunisian Government announced the opening of public competition for the purchase of busses for public urban and highway transportation. Interested companies have until September 30th to submit proposals. A Brazilian manufacturer, Busscar from the city of Joinville, in the southern state of Santa Catarina, confirmed interest in participating in the bidding.
The event, to take place in the Syrian capital in September, may serve as a door of entry for Brazilian companies interested in the Arab market. Brazil will have a stand organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and by the Brazilian Foreign Office. Apart from supplying the domestic demand, the fair usually receives visitors from various countries in the Middle East.
Approximately 40,000 people, including consumers and international visitors, examined new products presented by 250 expositors in São Paulo.
