Nelsinho Piquet won the two races of the first phase of the A1 Grand Prix, which took place yesterday in Brands Hatch, in England. In second place came the Australian driver Will Power and in third the Mexican Salvador Duran.
The semen of the horse RSC El Deb Haran, property of the businessman Claudio Bagarolli, will be exported to the United Arab Emirates for reproduction. The buyer is the horse-breeding farm Wrsan Stables. The sale was settled after the participation of the animal, an Arab thoroughbred, at the World Endurance Championship, which took place in the Emirates in January.
The A1 Grand Prix, category created by the sheikh Maktoum Hasher Al-Maktoum, will have amongst the directors the football players Ronaldo Nazário and Luis Figo, from Real Madrid, and the Formula 1 champions Emerson Fittipaldi, Alan Jones and John Surtees. The teams may only be sponsored by companies or brands from their countries of origin.
The high points of A1 Grand Prix will be the great value given to the drivers, as all the cars will be identical, and the dispute between countries, as each one of the 25 teams will represent a country. The Brazilian team has as its main investor football player Ronaldo, from Real Madrid, and twice Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, who will be the technical director.
A1 Grand Prix, the competition between countries created by Maktoum Hasher Al-Maktoum, will have its first phase in September, in England, and will include a Brazilian team.
The 160 kilometre long race is going to take place on Thursday. Six competitors from Brazil, four men and two women, are going to participate together with competitors from another 42 countries, in a total of 185 teams. Among the favourites are the riders from Dubai, Spain, France, Italy and the United States.
Brazilian figher Carlão Santos, three times world champion and black belt, works at Abu Dhabi Combat Club, an academy belonging to sheikh Tahnoom bin Zaied, son of the president of the Emirates. He is organizing the first jiu-jitsu championship in the Arab country. The sport started being spread in the Emirates after Tahnoom started learning with Brazilian fighter Nelson Monteiro, while studying in the United States, seven years ago.
