The region was the one that registered the greatest expansion in passenger throughput in 2007. Over 75 million people arrived or left through the airports in the region. Africa posted the second largest growth, and Latin America the third. The largest volume of traffic, however, was in North America.

In a ranking by journalists at the Lonely Planet travel guide, Brazil and Morocco featured among the best international tourist destinations for 2007. The list includes eleven countries and is headed by China. This year, Brazil will participate in the Arabian Travel Market, a trade show for the tourism sector in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.

The city of Porto Alegre, in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, will host Destinations 2006 – World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, between November 29th and December 2nd. The forum will be attended by approximately 5,000 people from more than 40 countries.
A delegation of the Moroccan air company is currently in Brazil to study the market prospects in the country. They met today (22) with the president of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Sarkis Jr., and with the secretary general for the organization, Michel Alaby.
The amount is 21% more than reported during the first nine months of last year, according to data from the Central Bank of Brazil. Expenditure by foreign visitors in Brazil reached US$ 3.2 billion, and should hit a record high before the end of the year, according to the Brazilian Tourism Institute.
The treaty was enacted last week through a decree signed by president Lula. One of the first measures will be a visit to Brazil by Syrian professionals in the sector and a trip to the Arab country by Brazilian specialists. The Arab country is renowned for its historic monuments but has also been greatly sought by people after natural treatment in thermal springs, using medicinal plants and black mud. The number or visitors seeking clinics and other institutions of the kind already represents 10% of the total.
The forecast is that 132 enterprises should be built, among hotels, apart-hotels and resorts, up to 2008. The investment should sustain the foreign tourist demand, which has been growing, and generate 15,000 jobs.
