Yesterday at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works, Brazilian businessmen on a mission to the Gulf got to know some of the projects that the country’s government aims to implement in up to ten years. According to Ministry representatives, Brazilians can be suppliers to the projects, provided that they have a local partner.

Daniel Schnorr, a consultant at the Brazilian Association of Shoe and Leather Components Industries (Assintecal), the organization that represents factories of leather inputs and shoes, is going to visit companies in Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Sudan between the end of February and beginning of March. The intention is to find new business for Brazilian industries in the sector and to invite the Arabs to participate in a sector fair in Brazil in April.

A partner at the International Company Trade, Anis Kanzari, from Tunisia, is currently in Brazil to have a closer look at the local shoe industry. Kanzari is one of the foreign visitors attending Couromoda, a trade show for the shoe sector being held in the southeastern Brazilian city of São Paulo. Before coming to Brazil, Kanzari had already bought a container of shoes made in the notheastern Brazilian capital of Recife.

To the organization, among the factors boosting trade with the Arabs are commercial promotion events, like trade delegations and participation in fairs. This year the Chamber is studying the possibility of participating in 16 fairs in Brazil and in the Arab world and in four trade missions.

The largest shoe and leather product fair in Latin America and the fourth largest in the world, the International Shoes, Sportsgoods and Leathergoods Fair (Couromoda) is going to open the season for shoe business, accessories and garment manufacturing in Brazil. The fair is scheduled to take place between January 15 and 18 at the Anhembi exhibition centre, in the southeastern Brazilian capital of São Paulo.

Five craftsmen from the outskirts of São Paulo make a living out of the art of marquetry, using pieces of wood found on the streets, and donations from furniture stores and carpentry shops. The result is boxes, lampshades, and even tables that are already for sale in the city. In addition to selling their pieces, the group has created a workshop to form new artisans in the community.

The National Confederation of Industries (CNI) has transformed the International Business Centres of state federations into a network that covers the whole of the country. They execute commercial promotion actions and provide consultancy services and businessman training. Now they are going after foreign partners for projects in Brazil.

Taedda, based in the city of Sergés, in the southern Brazilian state of Paraná, was established to be a factory for furniture export. After six months selling to Europe, the company now wants to explore the national market better. Foreign trade, however, has not been forgotten. In 2007, the group should start selling to Angola and the United Arab Emirates.

The Aspin system, developed and patented by a technician in electricity and hydraulics, is a system for purification of smokes and gases that reduces the emission of industrial CO and CO2 by 98%. The system may be adapted for use in industrial chimneys of any size, as it is a custom project.

The 24th Khartoum International Fair is scheduled to take place between January 24 and February 02. The fair is multi-sectorial and brings together exhibitors from various countries. The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is registering companies interested in participating. Sudan is growing fast due to the production of oil.
