Ministers of countries in both regions are meeting in Cairo, until today, to discuss how to proceed in the social area. The first step, according to the Brazilian minister of Social Development, Patrus Ananias, who is in the Arab country, should be sharing experiences. Ananias should travel to Algeria to learn about the programs in the country for youths, elderly people and people with disabilities. He was invited to go during the meeting.

This was one of the issues tackled yesterday by the Moroccan minister of Economic Affairs, Rachid El Alami, in a meeting with the secretary general at the Itamaraty (Brazilian foreign office), Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães. The minister also had meetings at the ministries of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Social Development, Tourism, and at the Brazilian House of Representatives.

This is one of the subjects under discussion by high-level government officials from Arab and South American countries in Cairo. They are preparing a document that will be presented at a meeting for ministers in the social field, to be held next Wednesday and Thursday at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, in the capital of Egypt. The meeting is a follow-up to the agenda set at the summit of the two regions, held in May 2005 in Brazil.

On Monday the minister of Economic Affairs of the Arab country, Rachid El Alami, will be in Brazilian capital Brasília to win support to the organization of Expo 2012 in Tangiers, and to discuss economic questions and social policies. In May there will be meetings with businessmen and ministers in Rabat, and the country will also receive a trade delegation organized by the Arab Brazilian Chamber. In June, Brazilian president Lula may visit Morocco.

The Brazilian minister for Social Development and Hunger Alleviation, Patrus Ananias, is going to participate on Wednesday and Thursday of this week in a ministerial meeting in the social area in Arab and South American Countries in Cairo. Leaders from both regions are going to present, at the meeting, their social development policies. Ananias is going to discuss the Brazilian income distribution programs.
