São Paulo – Chefs from the social project Gastromotiva, based in the city of São Paulo, are in Saudi Arabia this week to attend Cityquest, an event that gathers leaders from several countries for discussions about the projects of new cities in the world. The forum is being held at King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). The information was provided by the project’s press office.
Founded in 2006, Gastromotiva has the goal of promoting social integration through gastronomy. The project, which also operates in Rio de Janeiro, works with low-income youth, immigrants, ex-convicts, and teaches them to cook.
In his presentation in the event, which took place this Tuesday (8th), David Hertz, the founder of Gastromotiva, spoke on the importance of gastronomy and food in the new cities and how they have the opportunity of being born already with the social gastronomy movement being present.
The event’s invitation to Gastromotiva was made by Fahad Al-Rasheed, CEO of the property developing company Emaar and director general of KAEC. Al Rasheed and Hertz were listed as young global leaders by the World Economic Forum.
On Monday (7th) evening, Hertz and Marcos Eituts, professor at Gastromotiva, prepared a dinner for 300 people in partnership with the staff team of Baylasun hotel. The menu included Brazilian dishes such as black beans soup, tapioca, moqueca (fish stew), and desserts such as pudding and brigadeiro.
The partnership between the Brazilian and Saudi chefs also produced a training session for the Arab chefs held this Tuesday, in which Hertz, Eituts and two former students at Gastromotiva spoke on best practices and techniques in the kitchen.
