São Paulo – Chemicals imports to Brazil amounted to USD 37.6 billion year-to-date through October, up 4.9% year-on-year, the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (Abiquim) reported.
Fertilizers and inputs made up the bulk of chemicals imports, accounting for 20.9% of total import value at USD 7.8 billion, and for 66.6% of imported amount at 26.4 million tons. Some of the fertilizer suppliers to Brazil are in Arab countries.
October saw Brazil import USD 4.3 billion worth of chemicals, up 1.4% year-on-year.
As per Abiquim forecasts, chemicals imports will amount to USD 45.2 billion by the end of the year, up 4.3% over 2019. Import volume is expected to be up 7.6% to 48.6 million tons.
