São Paulo – Brazilian chicken exports generated US$ 331.5 million in the month of September, which represented a growth of 57% when compared to the same month last year. Shipments totalled 255,000 tonnes of the product, 19.3% more than in the same period in 2004, according to figures supplied today (14) by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef).
The accumulated result for the year shows that exports have reached a record figure of 2.13 million tonnes, meaning an increase of 18% when compared to the period from January to September last year. Sales revenues have already reached US$ 2.5 billion, 31% more than in the first nine months of 2004.
Brazil is still the world leader in chicken exports, and has the Middle East as its main customer in terms of volume. Shipment to the region has totalled 626,600 tonnes of the product, which generated revenues of US$ 667 million from January to September 2005.
To the Asian countries, the main Brazilian market in terms of revenues, exports totalled US$ 722.1 million in chicken, which represented 559,400 tonnes in the first nine months of this year.
