Curitiba – Chicken exports posted record-high growth this year in the state of Paraná. From January until July, sales increased by 13.61% compared with the same period of last year. In the first seven months this year, the industry obtained US$ 946.075 million in revenues, as against US$ 832.716 million in the same period of 2009.
According to the president of the Union of Poultry Industries of the State of Paraná (Sindiavipar) and of the Domestic Market Chamber of the Brazilian Poultry Union (Ubabef), Domingos Martins, the good performance of poultry farming may be ascribed to the recovery of the product’s prices abroad. "It is also a result of sales of industrialized products, which have greater added value."
Martins also points out the renegotiation of chicken prices, which are increasing on the international market, as a contributing factor for growth. "By the end of the year, prices should increase by 16% over last year. The tonne should sell for US$ 1,650, as against, US$ 1,470 in 2009."
In terms of total kilograms sold, there was growth of only 1.08% this year. By July, 572.15 million kilograms were exported July, as against 566.013 million in the first seven months of 2009.
