Brasília – Brazilian orange juice producers are celebrating the United States’ waive of the option to appeal the ruling of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the dispute filed by Brazil against antidumping measures of the United States government on Brazilian orange juice imports.
To Gastão Crocco, the director of Citrus culture at the Brazilian Rural Society (SRB, in the Portuguese acronym), the attitude of the US is an incentive for the sector to increase its citrus production even further. “This fact will bring comfort to small, medium and large farmers and citrus growers, who will have further incentive to produce orange and other citrus fruit,” he said.
The president of the Brazilian Citrus Growers Association (Associtru), Flávio Viegas, stated that the US’ decision will bring positive consequences to Brazilian citrus culture. “The decision is welcome and supported, because it also aims to improve the pricing and distribution of our products.”
The US government began applying antidumping measures in 2008, based on the allegation that Brazilian orange juice was sold in the United States at much lower prices than on the Brazilian market, which constitutes dumping.
