City of roses returns to exports
The city of Barbacena and surrounding cities, in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, produced 12 million roses last year. For this year, the target is to increase the total to 15 million stems and return to the foreign market. Barbacena, which has 20 small producers of roses, was a large exporter of roses in previous decades. In this new phase, the first sale abroad was made to Portugal at the beginning of the year.
