‘Brasília – Although revenues were up 2.4% from 2011, Brazil’s processing industry performed “poorly” in 2012 according to the National Confederation of Industries (CNI). Industrial indicators released by the organization this Wednesday (6th) show a 1.5% decline in hours worked and a 0.9 percentage point drop in use of installed capacity. To the CNI, the year has been “lost” to the sector.
According to the organization, revenues were up in 12 out of 19 sectors surveyed in 2012, and the pulp and paper industry posted the highest increase (28.2%). The “other transportation equipment” category (which includes vehicle bodies, aircraft, ships and trailers) saw the sharpest decline: 14.5%.
That same sector recorded the most pronounced drop in use of installed capacity, which was down 8.1 percentage points. A total of 13 sectors saw this indicator drop. Use of installed capacity increased the most in the wood processing industry (3.9 points).
