São Paulo – Brazil exported 328,089 bags of coffee to the Arab countries in the first quarter of this year, representing growth of 6% over the same period of last year, according to data disclosed today (7th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé). Revenues from shipments totalled US$ 43.1 million, an increase of 21% using the same basis of comparison. The Arabs buy 4% of all coffee exported by Brazil.
A total of 7,36 million bags were exported in the first quarter, generating US$ 1.16 billion in revenues. In March alone, 2.6 million bags were shipped, 0.2% more than in the same month of last year. Revenues totalled US$ 412.6 million, representing growth of 18.4% using the same basis of comparison.
According to the Cecafé, it was the best result for the month of March in the last five years. The chairman of the organization, Guilherme Braga, stated that the performance was boosted by the recovery of international prices.
