São Paulo – Brazilian coffee exports totalled US$ 392 million in May, representing growth of 19.3% over the same month of last year. A total of 2.48 million bags of coffee were shipped, a 0.6% decline using the same basis of comparison. The data were disclosed today (8th) by the Brazilian Coffee Exporter Council (Cecafé).
Since the start of the crop year, sales totalled US$ 4.49 billion and 29.98 million bags shipped. Europe was the leading importer of Brazilian coffee, with a 55% share in foreign sales, followed by North America, with a 20% share, Asia, with 17%, and South America, with 5%.
The countries that purchased the most from Brazil include Germany, with 2.28 million bags from January to May, the United States, with 2.22 million, Italy, with 1 million, and Japan, with 866,000 bags.
According to data supplied by the Cecafé, coffee of the Arabica variety accounted for 84% of Brazilian sales, soluble coffee accounted for 11%, and Robusta coffee answered to 5% of exports.
