São Paulo – This year’s coffee harvest is expected to be between 44.11 and 46.61 million 60kg bags. If these projections, coming from the first harvest estimation and released this Tuesday (13) by National Company of Food Supply (Conab, in the Portuguese acronym), turn out to be accurate the harvest could be 2.7% smaller or 2.8% larger than the one from 2014. The survey takes into account the varieties Arabica, which amounts to 75.1% of the coffee produced in Brazil, and Conilon (Robusta), which accounts to 24.1% of the total.
Conab states that there is a reduction in the harvest of the Conilon type because of climate reasons, with the decrease in production standing between 6.3 and 8.8%. While the production of the Arabica coffee could increase between 0.6 and 6.5% as the result of production growth in the regions of Zona da Mata Mineira and Paraná state.
The production of Arabica coffee should stay between 32.5 and 34.4 million bags, while the Conilon production should come between 11.61 and 12.21 million bags. Minas Gerais state is the main Arabica coffee producer and Espírito Santo state is first at Conilon production. Conab expects that in this harvest the planted area should decrease by 12.07 thousand hectares, or 0.6% of the total, in comparison to the previous one.
