São Paulo – Selial, the São Paulo state-based company of concentrated juices and juice-based produtcs, is exporting to the Arab countries. The first shipment by the company to the region was to Lebanon in 2011. It has sold to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia in the past, and is planning to expand business in the region.
Currently, Selial is negotiating with new clients from Saudi Arabia and Jordan. As a result, the Arabs already account for 10% of the company’s sales, which has 99% of its output directed to the foreign market. “I really believe in this market. I’m trying to develop a lot of things there and I’m moving through referrals, from one client to another”, explains sales manager Flavia Bueno de Moraes on her bet in the Middle East market.
The majority of the company’s production is of frozen concentrated orange juice, which it exports to the Arab countries. Selial, however, also produces concentrated lemon juice, in addition to making essential oils with these fruits.
“We sell to companies and distributors. We ship it in barrels and then they mix it with water”, says the executive. This way, the Brazilian juice is sold in those markets under local brands.
Moraes says that she is responsible for half of the contacts with Arab clients, with the other half being made by a Brazilian trader. The company doesn’t have representatives abroad and its exports are made through the work of traders or contacts made by foreigners interested in importing the company’s juices.
Selial exports to 22 countries, with China and Holland as the main destinations abroad. The company has five importers of orange juice in the Arab countries.
In the last few years, the company produced between three and five thousand tons of concentrated orange juice per year, but there’s still room for expansion, since its capacity is of 20,000 tons annually.
Founded in 1981, Selial is based in Rio Claro (176 km from São Paulo) and has 45 employees.
