São Paulo – the concession of Brazilian airports to the private initiative is going to guarantee the infrastructure required by the air transport system for the coming 30 years, president Dilma Rousseff said this Friday (30). “The concessions for some airports will remain in force until 2041,” she said while attending a forum promoted by Exame magazine in São Paulo.
According to Dilma, improvements at airports are not specifically related to the FIFA World Cup 2014 or the 2016 Olympic Games, but rather with meeting the needs of the population. “We need airports for our own selves.”
To the president, private enterprises play an important complementary role to the development of major works that the country needs. “The private sector has to be responsible for the modernization of infrastructure in our country,” she said. Dilma also spoke for public-private partnerships as a means to increase efficiency while lowering costs.
