Rio de Janeiro – Consumer confidence in Brazil has increased by 3.3% from October to November 2011, according to the Getulio Vargas Foundation. The Consumer Confidence Index (ICC, in the Portuguese acronym) disclosed today (25th) has climbed from 115.2 to 119 points.
The measure of optimism regarding how the economic situation will evolve over the next six months contributed the most to the good result of the index, which comprises six aspects covered in the Consumer Expectation Survey. The share of consumers who forecast an increase has grown from 24.3% to 26.3%; the share of those expecting a worsening dropped from 25.6% to 18.5%. Still, the indicator is at a level lower than the historical average.
After three consecutive months of decline, the Current Situation Index (ISA) rose by 5.2% (from 132.4 to 139.3 points). The Expectations Index increased by 2% (from 106.2 to 108.3 points), slightly above the historical average of 107.7 points.
There has also been an improvement in consumers’ assessments of the current economic situation: the share of consumers who assess it as good rose from 22.6% to 25.1%; the share of those who believe it is bad dropped from 24.5% to 18.9%.
