Rio de Janeiro – The 1.24% increment in the Extended Consumer Price Index (IPCA) seen in January was the highest since February 2003, when the index was up 1.57%. The index had been up 0.78% in December 2014 and 0.55% in January 2014.
The IPCA figures have been released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Friday (6th). In the 12-month period leading up to January, the index was up 7.14%, the highest since September 2011, when the annualized inflation rate had climbed by 7.31%. From January through December 2014, the IPCA was up 6.41%.
