São Paulo – Corporate travel-related spending dropped 3.6% last year in Brazil, to BRL 38.7 billion (USD 9.6 billion). In 2014, the industry had grossed BRL 40.1 billion (USD 10 billion), according to figures released this Monday (15) at the Latin American Corporate Travel & Events Experience, which opened this Sunday (14) and will run until Tuesday (16) in São Paulo.
The numbers are from a survey by Hildemar Brasil, the holder of a PhD in Tourism Economics, with coordination from the Latin American Association of Event and Corporate Travel Managers (Alagev) and the Center for Applied Studies at Centro Universitário Senac.
The survey shows that the corporate travel industry created 725,000 direct and indirect jobs, down from 753,000 in 2014. Air travel grossed the most, accounting for 44.2% of total revenues, followed by hospitality and food.
