Brasília – Brazil currently has 152.3 million mobile telephone subscribers. Out of that total, 81.59% have pre-paid accounts and 18.41% have post-paid ones. In February alone, 415,900 new telephones were activated.
According to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), the leading company in terms of mobile telephony market share is Vivo, with 29.8%. Next up, come Claro, with 25.8%, Tim, with 23.4% and Oi, with 16.6%. The companies have maintained the same positions as last month.
The number of active telephones per 100-people group, known as teledensity rate, grew 0.19% in comparison with last month, and reached 79.9. Compared with February 2008, when the rate was 65.09, there was growth of 22.82%.
The Federal District has the highest teledensity rate: 143.76 – i.e., 1.4 telephone for each inhabitant. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, the teledensity rate is 97.87, and in Mato Grosso do Sul, 96.01. In Amazonas, the rate increased by 12.04%, having risen from 56.84 in January to 63.68 in February. In Roraima, the rate climbed from 54.63 in January to 60.99 in February, growth of 11.65%.
