São Paulo – Over 90,000 people should visit the 39th Couromoda, the largest fair in the shoe sector in Brazil, to begin on Monday (16), according to expectations of the organizers of the event. In this edition, around 1,100 companies should present the autumn/winter collection of 3,000 bands of shoes, sports shoes and products, leather products and also equipment for producers. According to the event organizers, buyers from 64 countries should visit the Anhembi up to Thursday (19), the last day of the fair.
In a press statement, the president at Couromoda, Francisco Santos, stated that the event shows the market tendencies for the season that is coming, but is also an occasion for retailers, distributors and buyers to discuss the sector tendencies and realities.
To Santos, Brazil is the best alternative “outside Asia” to supply the global market. According to the executive, the Brazilian shoe industry already exports to over 150 countries. Still according to the Couromoda organizers, 35% of sector sales start or are negotiated at the fair.
In December, the foreign market manager at Couromoda, Katherine Shibata, said to ANBA that Arab presence at the fair is growing. She said that from 2010 to 2011 there was 45% growth in the number of Arab buyers visiting the event.
For this year’s edition, 40 clients from the Middle East and North Africa are expected, mainly from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Algeria, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Saudi Arabia. In total, 3,000 foreigners should seek products at Couromoda. According to Shibata, Arabs prefer the winter collection, which includes more closed shoes.
