São Paulo – Casa do Saber (the House of Knowledge), a cultural centre in São Paulo, is offering two holiday courses with themes relating to the Arab countries: Guerra e Paz no Oriente Médio (War and Peace in the Middle East) and História do Islã (History of Islam).
War and Peace in the Middle East kicks off on July 10th, addressing the history of wars in the region, the role of the United Nations in the conflicts, and the Arab Spring’s repercussions. History of Islam opens on July 18th, tackling the formation of Islamic religion, its spread throughout the Middle East, and its influence on politics.
War and Peace in the Middle East will be administered by Sidney Ferreira Leite, holder of a PhD in History from the University of São Paulo (USP) and International Relations professor at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing and Centro Universitário Belas Artes. History of Islam will be taught by Arlene Clemesha, Arab History professor and director of USP’s Centre for Arab Studies.
