Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) estimates a 209.3 million ton crop of cereals, pulses and oilseeds for next year. The estimate is down 1% from the forecast for 2015, released in November of this year as part of the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production.
Despite the smaller total crop, a record-high output of soy, the country’s primary cereal crop, is expected at 101.5 million tons for next year, up 4.7% from this one.
However, rice and first-crop maize outputs should be smaller than this year, with 0.7% and 2.3% declines, respectively. Other crops are expected to be smaller next year than in 2015, including first-crop beans (-1.5%) and cotton (-4.9%).
