São Paulo – Raw steel production in Brazil was down 6.1% year-on-year in November to 2.8 million tons. Year-to-date through November, 32.1 million tons were made, up 1.8% from a year ago. The numbers were made public by industry association Instituto Aço Brasil this Thursday (20).
In November, flat-rolled steel production amounted to 2 million tons, up 0.9% from November 2017. Production of semi-finished steel products for sale purposes reached 768,000 tons, down 5.8%.
Year-to-date through November, flat-rolled steel production amounted to 21.5 million tons, up 4.3% from a year ago, with semi-finished steel products for sale purposes amounting to 8.9 million tons, up 0.4%.
Steel imports to Brazil in November came out to 171,000 tons and USD 204 million. Imports increased in volume (3%) and value (15.3%) compared with November 2017. Year-to-date through November, imports amounted to 2.2 million tons and USD 2.4 billion, up 2.9% and 18.4%, respectively.
