São Paulo – Morocco, the Arab country in North Africa, has provided the inspiration for the high summer collection of Daslu, the famous Brazilian high-end clothing brand. The clothes are on sale since November and boast a cosmopolitan, adventurous spirit, according to press material from Daslu.
The inspiration was drawn from the beaches of the city of Agadir, with its surfboards, and from Marrakech, with its Majorelle Garden, replete with colours, flowers, tiles, fountains, and shapes. Like these two colourful locations, this season’s clothes feature warm, vibrant tones of yellow, blue, orange, pink, white and off-white.
Fabric-wise, Daslu has mostly employed pure silk, transparencies such as georgette, linen, and texturized and embroidered cotton. According to information from the brand, the prints highlight the Moroccan influence, featuring designs based on the Majorelle Garden and foliage inspired by local plants.
The primary looks in the collection are midi, below-the-knee dresses and skirts, cropped (above the belly button) sweaters and tops, and kaftans, tunics or even light, loose-fitting Moroccan-style dresses.
Daslu was founded in the 50s as a friends-only boutique store in São Paulo’s Vila Nova Conceição neighbourhood. Up until the 80s, it only sold Brazilian-made clothing. Later on, the brand started carrying top-tier international brands like Gucci and Giorgio Armani, and then began to design its own collections. After filing for receivership, Daslu was sold in 2011 and then reformed.
Presently, Daslu has nine stores in Brazil and sells clothing of its own design. It has two units in São Paulo and seven others in Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Fortaleza, Ribeirão Preto and Brasília.
